Overview of Gifted

Hi guys!

This is just a short blog piece containing an overview of my soon-to-be-published novel, Gifted. Things are really coming together for my book and so I thought it best to actually tell you more about it!

Nineteen-year-old Avery Gray has emotional baggage she hides from not only the world, but herself. One day she meets a young man, not from her city, who forces her to accept the truth. Ever since her ex-boyfriend called her his “weight project”, doubts about why any remotely good-looking guy would be interested in a size twelve, bespectacled girl with a penchant for dry humour like her, subconsciously creeps in.

Unfortunately, trying to figure out what exactly the enigmatic Theodore-James Connors could possibly want from her and sabotaging any real chance of being with him along the way, isn’t her only problem. It turns out Theo has brought with him another world kept separate from the world she currently knows, and Avery discovers that her world isn’t as black and white as she’d once thought. Upon meeting again, Theo brings Avery to Hayven, a city separated from the rest of the world, where only gifters – ordinary people with extra-ordinary gifts – can go. Learning she has the gift of foresight and the ability to travel in colours is exciting, and Avery soon finds herself in a close-knit group of friends she’d never have imagined herself in, friends who are diverse in every possible way, from their ethnic backgrounds, to their personalities, to their gifts, to their life stories. But this beautiful city has its dark side: Cliders.

Gifters turned rogue, aka, Cliders are determined to aid fallen Clider, Madrina, return to rule Hayven. They will stop at nothing to make that happen, including harming those Avery has grown to love. Upon discovering that she may not have been chosen for this task but simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, Avery is faced with a choice. She can either spend her days finding a way to inhibit Madrina’s return, or she can walk away.
